The Plot

The little town of Stonewood sits in the forested hills of East Tennessee. Like most towns, it has a public library, and like in most libraries, a strange and entirely invisible war rages.

Gangs centered around major book genres battle one another for space on the shelves. The more books that are in their area, the better the chance of their own novel being read. Readership determines life or death, so it's every genre for itself.

But if survival alone wasn't enough, genre rivalries and biases leave some gangs not only fighting for shelf space but pushing their own agendas as well - even within their own groups.

The Gangs & Their Plots

Comics: the Sketches

Fantasy: the Fantoms

Fiction: the Anecdotes

Horror: the Terrors

Mystery: the Detectives

Sci-Fi: the Profs

Thriller: the Thrills & Chills

Unaffiliated characters: no gang.

Storyline Thus Far...

2017 has been a fair year for the Fantoms, who are working to combat staunch realism wherever they find it. The Anecdotes have put up some good fights of their own, but life's hard when you don't have magic on your side like your opponents do. Meanwhile, the Terrors are having fun with everyone as always. However, we've heard little from the Unaffiliated characters about anything regarding these skirmishes or the war in general.

Sub-Plot Progress Bars

Below are progress bars for each group and their current sub-plot. Characters can further their group's sub-plots by earning points through posts. You can find the point system below. If there are any questions or suggestions, PM Brock.

Earning Points

Points first count towards a group's general sub-plot. However, once a group unlocks their first new sub-plot event, points only accrue for actions that further the new sub-plot. For example, the Anecdotes will accrue points for their general sub-plot, but now that the Terrors have unlocked E1, they will only accrue points for that plot.

At least for now, while the site is small, points may be earned by NPC characters. (Ex. In the Headless Horseman's post, an NPC Terror may bother NPC Anecdotes while the Horseman looks for a target. Or the Horseman may chase after an NPC Fantom.) However, we encourage members to focus their efforts on apped characters of rival gangs.

Claiming Points

When claiming points, you must link to your post and specify why you are claiming the points. You must also link to times when you lose points. A record of posts will be kept beneath each group's progress bar. Once a progress bar has been filled up, the record will be deleted and a new sub-plot progress bar will be posted.

Anecdotes

General

Some Anecdotes want to rid the literary world of Sketches and Fantoms. Of course, they would like other genres to stick to more real-world things (so no monsters for the Terrors, and they tolerate the aliens the Profs deal with because they are answering scientific or societal problems), but the overtly fantastical ones need to go.

Goal

Record

+1 small action http://shelfspace.jcink.net/index.php?showtopic=1279&view=findpost&p=2466 [04/05/17]
+1 mini event for above action [04/05/17]
+5 make book missing http://shelfspace.jcink.net/index.php?showtopic=1302&view=findpost&p=2515 [5/22/17]
+3 injure another group's character http://shelfspace.jcink.net/index.php?showtopic=1302&view=findpost&p=2527 [5/22/17]

Detectives

General

The Detectives nose their way into other genres' business. The criminals like to see what mischief they can get up to, and law enforcement and crime-solvers tend to overstep their boundaries and interfere in problems that are not their own.

Goal

Fantoms

General

The Fantoms dislike the other genres (excluding the Sketches and Profs) because they are often set in the real world and are not very creative. They try to encourage others to "broaden their horizons" and "think outside the cover".

Goal

Record

+2 prolonged physical action http://shelfspace.jcink.net/index.php?showtopic=1302&view=findpost&p=2514 [5/22/17]
+6 kill w/ no revival time http://shelfspace.jcink.net/index.php?showtopic=1302&view=findpost&p=2518 [5/22/17]

+2 prolonged action http://shelfspace.jcink.net/index.php?showtopic=1316&view=findpost&p=2553 [5/28/17]

Profs

General

The Profs seek answers to societal issues. They love creating new technologies, exploring new worlds, and proposing new scenarios just to see how they play out.

Goal

Sketches

General

The Sketches want to become recognized as works of literature. A good few promote the term "graphic novels". They also encourage the recognition of web comics (and, by extension, other web-based works, at least that are good) as legitimate works of literature. Essentially, they seek the acceptance of non-print mediums as legitimate ways to spread/promote/host literature. By extension, they seek the acceptance of film (mainly animated film) as well.

Goal

Terrors

E1

The Terrors enjoyed their visit to the Sketches' display in August. Realizing that they haven't spent quite enough time with their hand-drawn literary peers as of late, they've decided to acquaint themselves with their neighbors down the shelves.

Goal

Thrills & Chills

General

The genre primarily keeps to itself and works on its own problems - all except the spies, who continually sneak out and infiltrate other genres.

Goal

Unaffiliated

General

The Unaffiliated characters go about their lives in different ways. Some avoid the gang wars. Others attempt to steer new characters away.
